Chop Block Typeface

Chop Block Typeface

As part of our design module this term, we were challenged to create a playful and expressive typeface from scratch. At first, I found the task intimidating—so much of typography feels rooted in strict rules and precision—but this project flipped that on its head. We were encouraged to experiment, take risks, and let personality shine through the letterforms. I drew inspiration from street art and children’s book illustrations, focusing on curves, quirky proportions, and unexpected details. The process taught me how typography can carry emotion and energy just like imagery. More than anything, it reminded me that design doesn’t always have to be serious—it can be fun, bold, and full of character.
