Lottie Reingier
Lotte Reiniger (1899–1981) was a German animator best known for creating the oldest surviving animated feature, The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926). Using intricate paper cut-out silhouettes, she pioneered stop-motion animation and developed an early form of the multiplane camera. Her visually stunning work, inspired by fairy tales and shadow puppetry, has had a lasting influence on the world of animation.
Her silhouettes and media have inspired me in my own and collaborative work for this module. Using a pop-up book made from paper and card, with movable sections that open up, relating to her influence of the theatre, using silhouettes to communicate story and narrative, as seen Reigners’ work.
